Portal helmet light

I haven’t had a chance to use this light on a mtb ride yet, it’s winter here currently. That said, I used it as a helmet light for an after hours snowmobile ride and I can confirm, she works well. Big fan!

Portal & Hangover used as a combo

Great splay of illumination for playing on the trails.

Portal Helmet Light

Pros…Nicely packaged self contained light that mounts brilliantly to helmet with GP mount. Nice, natural soft white color of light emitted.

Cons…a bit on heavy side for helmet light leaving neck a bit sore during ride and weight causes extra instability of light even with helmet snuggly cinched down. Also, found doesn’t throw enough light forward for DH trail riding for me for a helmet light especially. Havent done official run time testing, but not impressed with run times as well when doing Adaptive and Medium brigtness for climbing and High for the downs. Averaging only about 1hr before auto dim down.

Really wanted to like this light due to all features and self contained, easy to pack and mount on the fly as needed. But found just not bright enough for me or at least to what I am use to for dedicated helmet light or the years (Dinotte XML-3). If light had Hangover weight on helmet with better throw and brightness, would be ideal!

Hey Jon, if you're only getting 1 hour of runtime on any mode, that is nowhere near meeting spec, so we need to get that addressed, and figure out if this is a charge issue, or something that is repeating where we need to fix something internally, but that is certainly not normal and something you should tell us about so we can get you sorted. Also, we've measured the center beam intensify of the Dinotte that uses an off the shelf Ledil Cute-3 round spot optic, and Portal should be higher center beam intensify, so if you feel it's less throw down trail, that also shouldn't be. This will generate an email to you so you can reply with some more detail and get this fixed for you immediately. Thanks Jon

Great light little bit heavy

Light is great. Bright clear and wide range. But it definitely pushes my helmet down into my glasses. Worth it though.

Great broad beam. No dead spots. I like the mounting options. Definitely brighter than the hangover.

Bigger 21700 battery!

In order to hit the same runtime as Trail Evo, and have higher peak brightness than Hangover we shoved a 5,000 mAH genuine Samsung 50E 21700 battery cell and wrapped the light around it.

This results in 43% more capacity over our Hangover light, meaning far longer runtimes (up to 2.5 hours on adaptive, a 50% increase over Hangover).

Even brighter!

While more lumens isn't always the answer, we added in some more brightness and increased the beam pattern width over Hangover to provide even more punch down the trail.

New finely tuned optics with 30% larger TIR cones means higher optical efficiency and more peripheral light to help spot the spooky stuff.

Simple User Interface

Few people read instruction manuals, even fewer want to, so we keep our lights dead simple so that you don’t need an advanced degree to remember some complicated button presses get to the mode you want.

Portal’s soft-touch overmolded top shell has a single, large button right in the middle that’s easy to feel through a thick winter glove in the dark, so you don’t have to hunt blindly around on top of your head just to turn it on.
