So far so good!

I bought two of these to enable my son’s to stretch their training rides after dark. Really happy with them so far. Easy to mount, battery life is good, and the lights are bright. No complaints.

Best light and company ever

I have several outbound lighting products, and I love every single one of them.. I had a problem with my Detour light. The back connector piece was separated from the casing and the company repaired it and had it back to me in 2 1/2 days. No questions asked very professional and it works perfectly. I will remain a fan for the rest of my life.

Worked for a month

Purchased the Detour light based on the recommendation of gravel riding friends. Used it on several rides and was very happy with the battery longevity, beam pattern, etc. Around a month later there is visible condensation under the lens and it no longer charges.

Well that's not remotely OK, and absolutely covered under warranty. Looks like Jason is already engaging with you in emails about getting this fixed immediately so that it never happens again, I'm sorry you had to deal with this defect, we'll get you take care of quickly.

Great Light

Everything I had hoped. Bright, great coverage where it’s needed and well constructed. Thanks.

Owned many front cycling lights, this maybe the GOAT

A lightweight, smart cycling light with impressive light dispersion. It’s not just about raw wattage; this light offers a well-balanced beam pattern. The mounting system is also top-notch. Highly recommended!

Get The Duct Tape

The DeTour light positively shines. It’s engineered to put the light exactly where you need it, and little or no light where you don’t. They’ve even added the daytime strobe that I’ve wanted for years. The light is designed for instant mount / dismount. The integral battery means the mount /dismount is one step - i.e. no fumbling with the battery. The entire light itself is just about pocket-sized. I would, however, like to see Outbound either tighten their tolerances, or put a tiny chamfer on the two short mounting edges - It rankles to have to take a file to a brand-spankin-new product. I would also like to see them offer an auxiliary battery pack to reduce range anxiety.

I love their charging system. I have a drawer full of oddball chargers; 120VAC input X something else out. I don’t even know what half of them are for. I’m relieved that Outbound has standardized to USB-C charging. Outbound charging is now interchangeable with dozens of devices and sources I already have. I also fully support their decision to *not* include the 120V to USB adapter - who doesn’t have a drawer full of those, already?

The customer experience is great. They waste no time getting the orders out the door. If you have a question and the website fails you, the company will get you an answer, even if it means the owner of the company has to e-mail you. An intelligent response is a breath of fresh air compared to so many companies that only have ignorant, stubborn chatbots, who regurgitate canned FAQ answers that don't apply to my question. That’s why I support resourceful, customer-focused American startups who manufacture in the USA.

On the other hand, the mounting bracket needs work. How about starting with a captive screw on the clamp? Plus, I paid a premium price for a premium light, and I couldn’t use it right out of the box; the light as shipped does not accommodate my (very standard) 22.2mm bars. We have 5 bikes with that diameter bar. I had to choose between duct tape, or ponying extra $ for mounting accessories.

My least favorite thing is that the mounting bracket has no left / right aim adjustment. The light points perpendicular to the bar. Period. You have to find or make room on your bar to mount it on a section that points straight ahead. I have to accommodate the mounting hardware, rather than the hardware accommodating me.

Don’t change a thing on the light. Back to the drawing board for the mounting bracket.

Thanks Wes, we do put a lot of time and effort into support, as we feel that's a big part of what you're paying for. To that end, if you contact us directly about any issues like this, we usually just send you parts, as we definitely don't want you resorting to duct tape.

As for the mounting bracket issues, most of what you're describing is only an issue for much older bikes, where you can't mount near the stem because of weird tapering and the 22.2mm section of bars is not straight. Since the stem clamp region is always pointing straight, the design intent is to square off that, so adding a left/right adjustment would make the mount much bulkier for an application that is extremely rare, making it worse for the majority of customers. The reason we include a 31.8mm shim with the 35mm clamp is that that's basically all that is manufactured these days for new bikes, so including a 25.4mm and 22.2mm shim in every box would make every light more expensive, while basically guaranteeing more plastic parts end up in the landfill. Not sure if that's the right choice, but that's the reasoning behind all this. Per our previous email conversation, I'm sending you the shims you need.

Automotive headlights
For your bike

Bringing our automotive lighting experience to provide a clean cut-off beam pattern that evenly illuminates the road ahead. You wouldn't use a flashlight for your car, why use it for your bike?

Optical Engineering

This is the game changer. Not only did we bring the automotive grade cutoff beam pattern to your handlebars, we took it a step further by precisely controlling how much light leaves the light and hits the ground from the front of your tire all the way up to where you are looking. When you read "it's like riding in daylight" this is why.

We are the only USA-based manufacturer of cutoff (also referred to as StVZO) beam pattern bike lights, we also made sure the light has unreal width to light up the ditches and keep the spooky things away.

Detour was designed with your ride in mind. Long runtime, easy mounting, broad panoramic beam, fast USB-C charging, and all backed by industry leading customer service.

Rock Solid Mounting

A good light isn’t so good if
it’s bouncing up and down on the bars all the time. That’s why we made a bolt-on clamp mount for Detour so it’s solidly locked to the bar, With a simple shim it adapts from 35mm to 31.8mm handlebars (25.4 and 22mm shims available) and the beam won’t shake around like lights with rubber strap mounts do.

Keep Life Simple

Few people read instruction manuals, even fewer want to, we keep our lights dead simple so that you don’t need an advanced degree to remember some complicated sequence of button presses to get to the mode you want.

USB-C pass-Thru Charging

We were one of the first to offer USB-C charging as standard, except we took it a step further by offering pass-through charging as well. This lets you plug in any USB power bank and charge the light while in use,
in any mode. Game changer for 24 hour races and extra long night rides!

Keeping Cool

When you pick up this light you might be surprised to not feel any metal. Plastic?! Must be something we used to be cheap isn't it? Far from it. This material we use is an incredibly cool (ha) engineered resin that is not only very durable, but also conducts heat. The result is a lightweight, durable, and thermally balanced light housing.

It can be sketchy riding at night when you are used to narrow beam patterns better suited for walking in the backyard. Our incredible optical engineering makes riding at night a joy again.
