Currently hiring for:

  • Head of Design

Job Title: Head of Design

Job Type: Full-time Salaried

Location: Bellingham, WA

Salary: $80-110k (negotiable, depending on experience), with EOY Bonus.

Ideal Candidate: Versatile designer with a strong industrial design background who can lead product aesthetics from concept through production, while also owning every design touchpoint, such as packaging, graphics, brand, web assets, and beyond. You work well with engineers, are comfortable owning decisions on a small team, and have the range to go from 3D product development to laying out an instruction manual without losing momentum.

Job Function: The primary role of this position is to lead design for our third generation of products, working directly with our mechanical and electrical engineers in Bellingham. You'll own industrial design for the full product lineup while also being responsible for all downstream design work such as packaging, print, brand, and digital. There is no separate brand team or agency layer. You set the standard and execute it.

Responsibilities

 Industrial Design

  • Lead form development, CMF, and ergonomics for Gen 3 product lineup and accessories while working together with mechanical, optical, and electrical engineering.
  • Own product aesthetics from initial concept through production intent, including DFM-conscious design decisions.
  • Drive prototyping and design validation using 3D printing (FDM, SLA, SLS) and hands-on iteration.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, including sketches, renderings and production-intent reference materials.

Brand & Graphic Design

  • Design retail and e-commerce packaging, including structural dielines and print-ready artwork, and work closely with vendors to ensure execution.
  • Create instruction manuals, quick-start guides, and in-box documentation.
  • Develop and maintain brand design standards — typography, color, iconography, and layout language.
  • Produce website graphics, marketing visuals, and product photography direction.
Design dealer display systems and point-of-sale materials for our IBD network.
  • Ensure visual cohesion across all customer touchpoints from product to box to web.

Requirements

  • Strong industrial design portfolio with physical consumer products taken through to production.
  • Fluent in some form of 3D software (Blender, Solidworks, Plasticity, etc.) and be able to adjust models quickly in response to engineering input. Being able to design parts in Solidworks is a huge plus.
  • Proficient in Adobe CC (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) for 2D and graphic work.
  • Experience designing for manufacturing: injection molding, CNC, and surface finishing constraints.
  • Packaging and print design experience including vendor handoff.
  • Self-sufficient and able to manage a wide scope without a team around you.
  • Opinionated about design and able to articulate the reasoning behind decisions clearly.
  • A strong desire to learn, try new things, and thrive in a small company that moves fast.
