Light is as expected; very nice construction and heft without feeling excessively heavy. The beam is precise and illuminates with purpose. It may be "underwhelming" compared to another light that is simply throwing light without aiming it, but the benefit is, of course, not blinding everyone in front of you.

My only gripe is that the website doesn't make it more apparent that I needed to purchase the correct mount. It's totally my fault, I should have paid closer attention. Looking at the ordering page a second time, it would be nice if there were a quick "add-on" feature that would double-check before it were added to cart/ordered.

I could be using my light right now, but instead, I'm waiting on the new adapter to arrive. Woops.

Premium light

I've owned several bike lights in the $100 range from companies like Light & Motion and Knog. The Detour earns its place as a top of the line road light. Particularly:

- The wide cutoff beam pattern, which casts a bigger lit area than lights with lenses a fraction of the size
- The extremely secure locking quick release mount--no way to mount it off angle or loose where it could fall off on a bump
- The ability to run while charging, with a weather-sealing USB cable
- A durable and easy-to-open port cover

Despite its larger volume, it's lighter than the Knog Blinder 1300. And it sits further forward in the GoPro mount than traditionally shaped lights, making it easier to mount a bar bag behind it.

It's a big investment as far as bike lights go. But if you ride enough in the dark, especially all day rides, you will see the value of its unique features.

A perfect commuting light

I used to strap a Surefire G2 flashlight to my handlebars for night riding, and while its bright, focused beam gave me a lot of visibility, it also earned me the ire of a woman on a shared path who swore at me as I rounded a corner and hit her full in the face with a 300 lumen spotlight.

The Outbound Detour with its cutoff beam is much kinder to drivers and pedestrians who are no longer blinded by staring straight down the barrel of a reflector, and it gives me superior nightime illumination with a beam that wraps almost 180 degrees around me allowing me to see into turns, and a spot that reaches out to light the roadway almost 50 feet ahead. It's also an excellent daytime light with a bright, flashing pattern that is visible from well over 100 yards away even in full sunlight. Note that the second nighttime flashing pattern is not as described in the manual. Instead of one LED ramping up and down while the other stays steady, both LEDs ramp up and down twice and then give a double flash before repeating the cycle. I emailed Outbound to inquire if this was a problem with my light and was informed that due to an inability to program a stable dual channel output, they had to change the feature despite the fact that they had already printed a large quantity of manuals describing the intended feature.

I've run the Detour in high heat, extreme cold, rain, snow, and sleet, and it continues to work like the day I got it. The state of the battery being indicated by the top four LEDs is a very welcome feature and allows me to know when it's time to recharge so I'm never suddenly left in the dark.

Finally, I'm trilled with the fact that these lights are manufactured in the US. Yes, they're expensive, but I will happily pay a premium for "Made in USA" quality.

Simply the best

This light is hands down the best light out there. I am planning an all night bike ride and with a power bank this light is perfect. It’s super easy to mount and use Solid built American made quality. It’s also very easy to take on and off your bike with the quick disconnect.

The hype is real.

Love my Outbound Detour light! Had my eye on this light for awhile but couldn't pull trigger cus price. Finally just did it cus have a race coming up that I may need light for. Took it out for some night rides and I'm sold on it! Makes me so comfortable to ride at night, which I normally would avoid at all cost. Price wise maybe slightly costlier than other high end lights, but worth every penny. Best gear purchase yet.

Automotive headlights
For your bike

Bringing our automotive lighting experience to provide a clean cut-off beam pattern that evenly illuminates the road ahead. You wouldn't use a flashlight for your car, why use it for your bike?

Optical Engineering

This is the game changer. Not only did we bring the automotive grade cutoff beam pattern to your handlebars, we took it a step further by precisely controlling how much light leaves the light and hits the ground from the front of your tire all the way up to where you are looking. When you read "it's like riding in daylight" this is why.

We are the only USA-based manufacturer of cutoff (also referred to as StVZO) beam pattern bike lights, we also made sure the light has unreal width to light up the ditches and keep the spooky things away.

Detour was designed with your ride in mind. Long runtime, easy mounting, broad panoramic beam, fast USB-C charging, and all backed by industry leading customer service.

Rock Solid Mounting

A good light isn’t so good if
it’s bouncing up and down on the bars all the time. That’s why we made a bolt-on clamp mount for Detour so it’s solidly locked to the bar, With a simple shim it adapts from 35mm to 31.8mm handlebars (25.4 and 22mm shims available) and the beam won’t shake around like lights with rubber strap mounts do.

Keep Life Simple

Few people read instruction manuals, even fewer want to, we keep our lights dead simple so that you don’t need an advanced degree to remember some complicated sequence of button presses to get to the mode you want.

USB-C pass-Thru Charging

We were one of the first to offer USB-C charging as standard, except we took it a step further by offering pass-through charging as well. This lets you plug in any USB power bank and charge the light while in use,
in any mode. Game changer for 24 hour races and extra long night rides!

Keeping Cool

When you pick up this light you might be surprised to not feel any metal. Plastic?! Must be something we used to be cheap isn't it? Far from it. This material we use is an incredibly cool (ha) engineered resin that is not only very durable, but also conducts heat. The result is a lightweight, durable, and thermally balanced light housing.

Make your Night ride enjoyable.

It can be sketchy riding at night when you are used to narrow beam patterns better suited for walking in the backyard. Our incredible optical engineering makes riding at night a joy again.
