Water ingress on first wet ride

Purchased this light on the strength of these reviews and for the apparent thoughtful design. Been using it for about a month and like the beam pattern and general operation.

The mount is a little more finicky than the similarly styled quick release system I have on my camera (Manfrotto brand) - I will give it a pass though as perhaps I can't expect a plastic interface to be as good as an all-metal one.

The major reason for the one-star review is that on my first wet ride today (couple of hours in light/moderate rain) I saw water ingress behind the lens. Although the light is currently still working, it's probably only a matter of time before it dies. I can see other reviewers have had similar issues, so wonder whether there has been a QC problem with a certain batch?

Regardless, very disappointed that spending over $300 AUD on a light seems to be a step backward from the other cheap (waterproof!) lights I've used in the past...

On a slightly more positive note, OL technical support seem very helpful so fingers crossed we can sort this out.

That's definitely not normal, nor acceptable, and absolutely preventable going forward after we cover it under warranty, which we're already in the middle of doing as you noted. There are indeed a handful of others who have had a similar issue out of the many thousands (fractions of a percent) of these in the field for years now, we've taken care of them all just like we'll do for you so this doesn't happen again. Totally get the rating, since you've had 1/1 fail on 1 wet ride, for a 100% failure rate, but if we had this happen on everything we would be in major trouble, since we cover all warranty costs for any kind of issue in the field, be it our fault or yours (this was not your fault, I'm sure). We're on it and will get you fixed up immediately.

So far so good!

I bought two of these to enable my son’s to stretch their training rides after dark. Really happy with them so far. Easy to mount, battery life is good, and the lights are bright. No complaints.

Best light and company ever

I have several outbound lighting products, and I love every single one of them.. I had a problem with my Detour light. The back connector piece was separated from the casing and the company repaired it and had it back to me in 2 1/2 days. No questions asked very professional and it works perfectly. I will remain a fan for the rest of my life.

Worked for a month

Purchased the Detour light based on the recommendation of gravel riding friends. Used it on several rides and was very happy with the battery longevity, beam pattern, etc. Around a month later there is visible condensation under the lens and it no longer charges.

Well that's not remotely OK, and absolutely covered under warranty. Looks like Jason is already engaging with you in emails about getting this fixed immediately so that it never happens again, I'm sorry you had to deal with this defect, we'll get you take care of quickly.

Great Light

Everything I had hoped. Bright, great coverage where it’s needed and well constructed. Thanks.

Owned many front cycling lights, this maybe the GOAT

A lightweight, smart cycling light with impressive light dispersion. It’s not just about raw wattage; this light offers a well-balanced beam pattern. The mounting system is also top-notch. Highly recommended!

Automotive headlights
For your bike

Bringing our automotive lighting experience to provide a clean cut-off beam pattern that evenly illuminates the road ahead. You wouldn't use a flashlight for your car, why use it for your bike?

Optical Engineering

This is the game changer. Not only did we bring the automotive grade cutoff beam pattern to your handlebars, we took it a step further by precisely controlling how much light leaves the light and hits the ground from the front of your tire all the way up to where you are looking. When you read "it's like riding in daylight" this is why.

We are the only USA-based manufacturer of cutoff (also referred to as StVZO) beam pattern bike lights, we also made sure the light has unreal width to light up the ditches and keep the spooky things away.

Say goodbye to bulky battery packs, hanging wires, zipties, and rubber bands holding your lights on your handlebar.

Detour was designed with your ride in mind. Long runtime, easy mounting, broad panoramic beam, fast USB-C charging, and all backed by industry leading customer service.

Rock Solid Mounting

A good light isn’t so good if
it’s bouncing up and down on the bars all the time. That’s why we made a bolt-on clamp mount for Detour so it’s solidly locked to the bar, With a simple shim it adapts from 35mm to 31.8mm handlebars (25.4 and 22mm shims available) and the beam won’t shake around like lights with rubber strap mounts do.

Keep Life Simple

Few people read instruction manuals, even fewer want to, we keep our lights dead simple so that you don’t need an advanced degree to remember some complicated sequence of button presses to get to the mode you want.

USB-C pass-Thru Charging

We were one of the first to offer USB-C charging as standard, except we took it a step further by offering pass-through charging as well. This lets you plug in any USB power bank and charge the light while in use,
in any mode. Game changer for 24 hour races and extra long night rides!

Keeping Cool

When you pick up this light you might be surprised to not feel any metal. Plastic?! Must be something we used to be cheap isn't it? Far from it. This material we use is an incredibly cool (ha) engineered resin that is not only very durable, but also conducts heat. The result is a lightweight, durable, and thermally balanced light housing.

Make your Night ride enjoyable.

It can be sketchy riding at night when you are used to narrow beam patterns better suited for walking in the backyard. Our incredible optical engineering makes riding at night a joy again.
