Bike Lights
I am an Outbound Lighting customer for life! They make outstanding products for cyclists. Even if you break their lights or otherwise parts of them, doing dumb stuff, they’ll take care of you! I experienced their top-tier customer service firsthand after I stripped the head of the installation screw for my Trail Evo mount, which I was swapping between bikes. Outbound Lighting’s team went above and beyond, swiftly sending me a replacement screw and a whole new mount at no cost, eliminating my need over transferring parts between bikes. Then, within days of the first warranty request, I had an incident involving a low-hanging branch leading to what looked like catastrophic damage to my Hangover Light. Outbound immediately emailed pre-paid postage so I could return the damaged unit at no cost. Astoundingly, they replaced the housing for the light without any hassle and returned it to me functioning flawlessly. True to their word, they turned it around quickly, getting it in the mail back to me the same day they received it. With shipping time to and from Alaska, the whole process only took 7 days from broken light to repaired light in my hands! Every interaction with Outbound Lighting has left a positive impression, not just for their prompt service but also for their attentiveness to customer satisfaction. This brand sets the standard for what quality and reliability should be in the lighting industry. I wholeheartedly recommend Outbound Lighting to anyone in need of dependable cycling lighting solutions backed by an outstanding warranty and customer service!
I currently own 2 detour lights for my gravel bike And my wife's gravel bike when we are riding at night on rails to trails and on the road. Gotta stay legal and not blind driversnin cars.
But for my mountain bike I purchased the trail evo light. WOW!
It rivals my ram pickup lights. It's actually better, so not really a rival. I have started using it on some trails riding too on the gravel bike. It's really good and well worth every penny!
I primarily purchased for night MTB riding . But now that it dark when I walk my dogs I found that the Portal light works great when mounted to my GoPro hardness - hand free dog walking now and much better than a flashlight!!!
But night riding with both Trail-Evo and now the Portal it’s like daylight on the trails. No more wires!
Also looking forward in trying the Portal on my Road bike ..
😁
With the EVO and new Portal lights, I have no reservations starting my mountain bike ride in the dark. The EVO has a wide light pattern and the Portal has a long penetrating light for those curved or elevated sections of the trail. I have the integrated RSL carbon handle bar and with the Bontrager Blendr 529589 and the OBL Action Camera Mount, it’s an integrated looking setup that’s rock solid over bumps.
The first time you go without the Cable Manger you are going to wish got one! Order it now! Seriously!
Super sweet!
I wish I bit the bullet and got the downhill package but better late than never. Having the trail evo is a huge game changer! Night rides have never been less scary and confident!
I have the new Portal and the Evo light fit my mountain bike and detour gravel light. Super well made, easy to use, insanely bright and focused just where you need the light. Perfect!
The customer service is also spectacular! 👍 highly recommended product and company!
I had a Bright Eyes 1800 lumen light, it was bright, I hated the brick, you have to park the bike close to an electrical outlet to be able to charge it. When it is really dark your eyes adjust to the bright light in front of you and everything else gets blacked out that is a problem if a large dog is running at you full speed not barking because you will not see him until he is right on you so I discovered. Scared the mess out of me. And you will miss turns if you don't know exactly where you are. The Bright Eyes is bright I had pedestrians shielding their eyes and cars flashing me so I was constantly adjusting the light on the fly. It had great distance but blinded everybody in front of me also could not see directly in front of my tire, that's not good. Tilt the light down so as not to blind everybody and I had good light in front of me but not much distance. Not a problem in the city but country roads are a different story.
The Outbound Lightening is not as bright but has a much wider field of view more defused light so you see the whole road well and don't have the dark tunnel effect. The second lenses is the bomb lights up my front tire and the road right in front of my front tire super well. Great design love the light, no more brick for me. Super convenient to pop the light on and off of the bike very secure mount the over all build quality is excellent.
I choked on the price a bit but after using the light a few times I got over that real quick. You gotta have good light if your going to ride dark country roads and this is a good light.
This is a real bike headlight not a strap on flashlight.
Swift delivery to Bavaria within less than a week, wow! During my first extended night ride the Portal Downhill Package kept all promises on quality and durability. Plenty of light, already in low mode which is certainly sufficient for every type of approach or uphill riding. Going downhill with high mode was a day-like experience! After nearly 3h in freezing conditions both battery indicators still showed 75% charge. I can only recommend these lights, especially in combination!
The Hangover has been my go-to helmet light for a couple years now but I'll be using the Portal on my solo gravel night rides from now on. Might stick with the Hangover for group night rides.
The Portal is heavier on paper and in hand than the Hangover, but that weight difference was not really noticeable once on my helmet. What IS noticeably different is the light beam - the Hangover is a spot light, whereas the Portal has a good solid core but also a wider spread that lights up the periphery, which is a bonus on the tighter twisty sections on my favorite trail. I paired the Portal on my helmet with a Detour on my bars for a recent gravel rip and had ample light, even with both lights on medium.
I might choose the Hangover for group rides as its spot beam is easier to control (and thus less likely to accidentally blind my fellow riders) but is still plenty bright for lighting up turns.
But wow, this new Portal really puts it out there.
Well done, folks!
orignially bought the hangover as a helmet light, but use it mostly as a bar light now as its so good. When I broke the mount after 8 months, Jason at Outbound told me “it doesnt matter if it fell from a Redbull airplane from 10,000', we'll get you taken care of.” and they did, back in my hands within a week
These lights are awesome sight is greatly improved
I ordered some accessories and inquired via email about something that I needed that they didn’t sell. I exchanged several emails with a guy named Jason and as it turns out, they have what I needed but don’t sell it. They added it to my order for free. That was nice but the thing that stood out is that Jason took the time to actually correspond with me and very patiently and thoroughly answered questions and sent me multiple emails as if he didn’t have hundreds of other inquiries to respond to. It’s not often that anybody takes that much time for a single customer who’s not spending a lot…..all I ordered was a couple of bar mounts and a bag for 2 lights. Even though the lights are expensive they are the best and Outbound matches their quality products with quality service. I’ll be buying their lights for a long time.
Well these are vastly differ when I did this 20 years ago!! (I’m 52) Don’t have to put that huge battery in my bottle cage!! These lights LIGHT the trail UP and the headlight is a perfect match as BOTH are really needed to be safe and have fun!! So thank you for an awesome product with NO BS! Now getting another set for my wife who recently got back into mountain biking again!!! Opens up a whole new world of fun!! PS.. get the cable holder thing, my buddy got the same lights but failed to get the cable holder and noticed his cables bouncing around on him, what cables I said??!!! 🤘🤘
